At The Bridges at Ankeny, we are privileged to be able to make available to you the leading edge in cardiovascular care. We have partnered with board-certified physicians in cardiovascular diseases, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography.
The goal of The Bridges at Ankeny’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program is to help you achieve the most active and productive life possible, despite physical limitations. It is divided into two parts—the cardiac program and the pulmonary program. The cardiac program is tailored for individuals with heart disease and the post-operative cardiac patient. The pulmonary program serves young adult through elderly patients, with diagnoses such as COPD—emphysema, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, chronic and acute respiratory failure, and pulmonary fibrosis.
Whether you are living with a chronic lung disease or have suffered an acute lung condition, we assist your recovery with intensive therapy, and we teach you strategies to help you manage your condition. The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program provides care to all patients admitted secondary to cardiopulmonary dysfunction leading to limitations in functional capabilities. Patients present post surgically or following an exacerbation of a chronic cardiopulmonary condition and require the level of care provided by an acute rehabilitation hospital. Patients present with various levels of medical acuity which is diagnosis and/or exacerbation based. The patient must be medically stable to be able to be medically managed in the acute rehabilitation environment and to tolerate approximately 1 – 3 hours of therapy/day. Within a safe, secure and structured environment, The Bridges at Ankeny offers intensive therapy seven days a week. Your schedule will be determined by your individual needs and goals. As a patient in any of The Bridges at Ankeny’s programs, you will receive a minimum of 1 – 3 hours of therapy a day, 5 days per week, generally Monday through Friday, and additional therapy on Saturday and/or Sunday for at least 1.5 – 2 hours. Skilled therapy will be provided in a combination of physical therapy and occupational therapy and/or speech therapy as needed. Rehabilitation nursing and access to a physician are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Assisted Living Services—We aim to provide all our residents with the services they’re looking for in a dedicated assisted living facility. This includes, but is not limited to, Catholic mass, Lutheran services, and any other religious services preferred by residents; areas for visiting friends and family to gather and enjoy; onsite medical support, including dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, audiologists, and more; 24/7 personal care; paid utilities, including water, heat, electric, telephone, cable, and Wi-Fi; housekeeping and laundry services; clinical health assessments; any assistance needed with activities of daily living like personal care and medical management; social activities, trips, and more; chef prepared meals in the dining room, in addition to à la carte dining. With healthy food, a social calendar of events, a spacious living area, and around-the-clock care from certified specialists and our dedicated staff, you’ll have everything you need at The Bridges at Ankeny.
We cultivate wellness for body, mind, and spirit—helping our short-stay guests stabilize, rehabilitate and return to normal activities. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of skilled health professionals, our rehab guests receive state-of-the-art rehabilitation care and endless hospitality as they heal and renew in a caring environment.
Compassionate Nursing Care—Our nursing care residences offer compassionate, sensitive care to seniors who requires significant assistance with activities of daily living. Rehabilitation services are also available if needed. We offer private and/or semi-private rooms for our nursing care residents. Our nursing care residents enjoy services, including 24-hour care by a licensed and professional nursing staff, dietician services including diabetic management, chef planned meals, physician onsite five days a week, life enrichment activities, salon services, wound care, palliative care, pharmacy services, transportation, and social services staff. Our nursing care residents also enjoy visiting or onsite specialists, including dentist, psychologist, psychiatrist, podiatrist, and optometrist.
Memory Care Services—Memory care like ours has the benefit of specializing in a precise kind of care designed for residents who suffer from loss of memory and may need a more customized day-to-day plan than others. With dementia support programs and new and unique forms of therapy to support diseases such as Alzheimer’s, it becomes much easier for you or your loved one to live a normal and happy life.
Some of the services we offer in our memory care communities include private apartments with private bathrooms to maintain independence, personal furnishings to provide a sense of familiarity, access to 24/7 licensed medical care, family style dining with an encouraging dining room for residents to socialize, religious and spiritual services (including a nondenominational), reminiscence therapy based on personal memories, protected outdoor spaces, and fully secured environments to keep you or your loved one safe and in control.

With emotional support, warmth, resilience, and empathy, we’ll work together to create a caring community dedicated to supporting the needs of all its residents. By adopting architectural elements, floor plans, and room decor to fit the needs of our residents with memory loss, we make it easy to move freely without concerns about safety. The loved ones of our residents also get to visit and experience the beauty of the grounds, as well as witness the healing effects of personalized memory care.
The Leader in Rehabilitation—You’ll experience coordinated care with frequent visits from members of our multidisciplinary team, including gerontology-certified medical director and a licensed physiatrist that craft your care experience as a rehab guest; physician assistants and advance practice nurses; licensed and professional nursing staff; licensed physical, occupational, and speech therapists; social services staff; registered dietitian; life enrichment staff; chaplain; podiatrist; psychiatrist; dentist; and pharmacy.
Individualized Care Programs—Our multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams develop individualized care programs for hip, knee, and shoulder replacement; orthopedic rehabilitation; cardiac rehabilitation; wound care; stroke rehabilitation; splinting and orthotic intervention; swallowing/dysphagia precautions; bariatric; post-trauma (like fall or car accident); pulmonary; respiratory; specialized home exercise; and pre-discharge home assessments.
Our rehabilitation and wellness program integrates traditional and alternative therapies based on the needs of individual guests.
Physical therapy—Using customized exercises and therapies, our physical therapy professionals help people of all ages increase strength, relieve pain and increase mobility.
Occupational therapy—When health conditions limit a person’s ability to manage the activities of daily life, our team of occupational therapists help guests remain as independent as possible with customized treatment programs and adaptive recommendations.
Speech therapy—Our speech therapy professionals and language pathologists work with guests to resolve communication, memory, eating and swallowing problems.
Therapeutic recreation—Therapeutic recreation uses life skills, leisure activities, recreation and play to promote health and wellness while helping people lead full and satisfying lives.
Cardiovascular Services—The interdisciplinary team is committed to ensuring that each individual’s needs are addressed by lessening limitations of activities by focusing on the individual’s capabilities and utilizing compensatory strategies and devices; providing the highest quality, patient focused rehabilitation; removing or lessening restrictions to participation in life situations to the fullest extent possible; providing counseling to the individual and family and/or caregiver on alternative possibilities for life participation when necessary; preparing the individual, family and/or caregiver to make the transition to the next stage of the rehabilitation process; continuum of care with your cardiology team; cardiac-specific rehabilitation; and free education from the full-time, onsite dietitian.
